          HOME ENERGY AUDITORS

AUDITS
An "audit" is whatever you want it to be. The criteria is defined by either you or the auditor. In many cases, these audits are performed by non licensed personnel. They are typically performed with the sole purpose of selling some costly improvements  such as radiant barrier and/or over-priced windows. Some are certified and come with computerized reports, others are just a piece of paper with a checklist. Be sure you are aware of what you are getting BEFORE you let someone begin an audit on your home. Certified audits can help you qualify for special mortgages called EEM's and EIM's. These require a CERTIFIED ENERGY RATER  to test your home to verify if it can
qualify for one of these programs.

WEATHERIZATION
Weatherization is a new term we are hearing more and more about. In some cities, utility companies offer programs to help consumers "weatherize" their homes to make them more energy efficient and reduce carbon footprints. We will be glad to evaluate your home to determine what programs may be available to you.

RATINGS
There are two types of ratings. The first is a PROJECTED rating. This type of  rating is performed prior to the construction (plan review) of a home or prior to the installation of energy improvements to an existing home.

The second type of rating is a CONFIRMED rating. This type of rating is an on-site inspection using testing equipment to confirm the actual home performance. These types of ratings are performed by a certified home energy rater.  Home energy raters are trained and certified by a RESNET accredited home energy rater training provider.

The home energy rater reviews the home to identify its energy characteristics, such as insulation levels, window efficiency, wall-to-window ratios, the heating and cooling system efficiency, the solar orientation of the home, and the water heating system. Performance testing, such as a blower door test for air leakage and duct leakage, is usually part of the rating.

The data gathered by the home energy rater is entered into a RESNET accredited computer program and translated into rating score. The home receives a score between 1 and 100, depending on its relative efficiency. An estimate of the home's energy costs is also provided in the report.

ENERGY SEAL SYSTEM
The Energy Seal System is a unique approach to diagnosing and solving the common problems in homes today using high tech diagnostic equipment. We use a blower door, duct blaster, low-E detectors, flow meters, and other equipment, along with a computerized system to quickly diagnosis why you have draft issues, poor air quality and problems heating and cooling your home. From there, we can make recommendations to solve your problems once and for all.
